Notions

I was doing some market research recently and came across an article titled '20 Marketing Tips Every Entrepreneur Should Know!' Tip 10 states: "Selling what your customers need, instead of what they want, can lead to failure." Well, that one stopped me in my tracks. I wondered, "Does this apply to quilters?"

As a quilter, I know what I want: lots and lots of fabric in my stash. However, when it comes to notions I tend to buy only what I need. I consciously do this so that I can put my money where I want it to go which is towards more fabric.

When I first started quilting, my mother gave me Fons & Porter's 'Quilter's Complete Guide' published by Leisure Arts. It is still my favourite resource for basic quilting information. The first chapter listed the tools needed to get me started and that list still satisfies all my needs today. My goal is to have my notion pages reflect that list. I want to offer those essential quilting tools at the best possible price. Why? Because I think what you want is what I want: fabric!
